Job Description

The Sr. Application Support Lead position is a highly visible role within a large and fast-paced team. This position is for one of our clients in Alexandria, VA. The purpose of this position is to provide leadership to the Applications Support Team. This team comprises a range of skillsets, including applications and corporate systems support specialists.  

This team provides operational and technology to a number of essential systems, including:

  • The BOS application suite, represented by Linux/Oracle environments is typically 24x7 operation.
  • Participate in design, testing, commissioning of new system and enhancements
  • Monitoring System Systems: including incident management, monitoring, service request fulfilment, regular maintenance, stakeholder and vendor management.
  • Supervision: Governance of vendors, transferring of Intellectual property and building knowledge management across business.
  • The role also includes provision of tactical and strategic direction, engagement with Technology & Business Management and Risk Management.

The role requires high level of interaction with personnel at all levels. An appropriate standard of presentation, customer service, and good interpersonal skills is required.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Hand-on experience in leading application support team
  • Experience in applications support of mission critical systems
  • Experience in WebSphere, SQL, Oracle database, Linux and strong shell scripting experience is required
  • Technical support experience in batch management, Linux and/or Microsoft Client / Server environments with proficiency in the use of related diagnostic tools
  • Excellent SQL skills, needs to lead the team in suggesting DB tuning, understand how the DB can be tuned
  • Exposure to Oracle and/or Microsoft SQL Server RDBMS
  • Exposure to application administration tools
  • Exposure to website administration
  • Sound Microsoft Office skills, especially Word & Excel
  • Experience analyzing & documenting application configurations, architect and operational processes
  • Understanding of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and its applications
  • Experience in supporting corporate systems

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, highly desired
  • Java and Oracle Certifications, highly desired
  • Success in a comparable position supporting applications that are enterprise level, mission critical, with medium to high volume transactions
