Job Description
Performs work in which the principles, theories, and general body of knowledge of mechanical engineering are required. Key designer in the development cycle of GATR products, including integrated electronics packaging, product ruggedization, thermal design and optimization, EMI/RFI containment, static structural analysis, and design for manufacturability.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum 10 years of engineering design experience
- Experienced with small spacecraft bus design to include packaging of payloads and processes for passive thermal management in low earth orbit space environments
- Experienced with design of mechanical systems for small spacecraft deployables
- Familiar with small satellite interface specifications for launch vehicles
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare detailed drawings of mechanical or electrical parts, components, and assemblies for engineering, manufacturing, or repair purposes using CAD equipment
- Generate/update GATR component and assembly drawings required for MRP BOM restructuring
- Generate/update GATR assembly drawing trees
- Generate new product drawings/documentation
- Provide design studies
- Work with GATR product line and generate concepts for component improvement
- Perform mechanical test and evaluation on components.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Solid understanding of core mechanical concepts such as mechanics, heat transfer, physics, and strengths of materials
- Familiar with sheet metal, CNC, injection molding, and cast parts fabrication
- Thorough working knowledge of SolidWorks 3D CAD software
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives without supervision
- Ability to lead the efforts of lower level employees.
