Duties and responsibilities:

Teach and assess undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Classical Studies (Classical Mythology and Civilisations) using appropriate teaching, learning support and assessment methods and technology.

Supervise and provide consultation sessions for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Recruit students for undergraduate and postgraduate study.

Contribute to programme development and curriculum review within the Department and Faculty.

Ensure active involvement in research activities of the Faculty.

Advance own area of independent research in Classical Studies, ensuring a commitment to the highest standards of ethics and integrity in research.

Contribute to community engagement initiatives of the Department.

Perform administrative duties relating to teaching, research and institutional obligations.

Contribute towards creating a strong academic identity for the Department.  

Work in a team with colleagues within the Faculty.

Senior Lecturer:

PhD with specialisation in Classical Studies (Classical Mythology and/or Civilisations).

Latin and/or Greek (Classical and/or Hellenistic) on at least third year undergraduate level. 

Proven experience in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate Classical Studies modules in a higher education environment.

Proven experience in the supervision of graduated Master’s students.

Proven experience in the presentation of papers at national scholarly conferences.

Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research in a specific area of scholarship (Classical Studies).

An NRF rating or demonstrate potential for obtaining an NRF rating.

A proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals.

Proven experience of service as an active member of a national or international scholarly society or committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels
