Job Description

Reporting to the chapter Executive Director, the Associate Executive Director serves in leadership role with senior level volunteers and constituents for fund raising, community development and operations. May supervise staff and volunteers.


Detailed Description        
Working within JDRF's volunteer - staff partnership environment, the Associate Executive Director will support and maintain the vision, mission, priorities and guiding principles of JDRF. 

In partnership with the chapter Executive Director, manage the functioning of the chapter's daily operations.

Oversee the day-to-day management of assigned chapter activities, staff and volunteers in the implementation of strategic and operational plans to drive fundraising and non-fundraising priorities.

Assist in the development and engagement of board members, as well as with the identification and cultivation of potential board members in coordination with the Executive Director and Nominating Committee.

Assist in developing and maintaining a Board of Distinction as defined in the Core Standards for Chapter Boards.

In partnership with the Chapter Executive Director, administer and coordinate the annual chapter planning and budgeting program for quality assurance and for congruence with the chapter's strategic business plan.

Coordinate and prepare strategic evaluations and analyses of chapter market potential, return on investment and primary and outlying market area development.

Make recommendations to stimulate chapter growth based on results and opportunities.

Recruit staff and manage key committees providing leadership, cultivation, acknowledgement, material support and assistance in building and implementing committee annual plans.

Provide strategic direction for major chapter external and community development activities such as corporate partnership development, volunteer leadership development, marketing and communication and education programs.

Recruit, screen and present candidates for chapter positions to the chapter Executive Director.

Assume interim responsibility for staffing vacant positions.

Coordinate training and orientation of new staff.

Represent the best interests, professionalism and integrity of JDRF in all activities and relationships through a unified message of the JDRF mission and a commitment to organizational standards and leadership by personal example.

Maintain a basic understanding of JDRF’s mission and research cure therapeutics.

Ensure the confidentiality and security of proprietary information.

Establish a network and represent the organization in professional societies/organizations.

Maintain a working knowledge of the JDRF mission and its programs to address them.

Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree required; CFRE a plus. 

NOTE: Required combination of education and work experience is based on Chapter's cluster and marketplace.  Two to ten (2-10) years of progressively responsible and related experience with a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory capacity required. 

Must have extensive peer to peer fundraising and event experience

Previous staff management/development experience required.  Professional fundraising or related experience.  Proficiency in non-profit and fiscal management. 

Understanding of computer systems and databases.  Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Volunteer management experience.  Effectively multi-task, establish priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.  Highly efficient in time management and can meet deadlines under pressure.  Financial management experience (budget development and management).  

Team player that has the ability to interface with all levels of staff and volunteers.  Must develop, maintain and utilize relationships.  Capability to leverage relationships and negotiate agreements.  

Excellent written, oral, and communication skills.  Ability for presentation delivery, conveying ideas and instructing effectively.  Superior active listening, observation, analytical and problem recognition and solving skills.  

Exercise sound judgment.  Ability to work and make judgments independently and take initiative.  Well-disciplined and a self-starter that is extremely resourceful.  High capacity to assess the value, importance, and/or quality of activities and people.  

Ability to travel locally required.  

Occasional overnight travel as needed.  

Occasional evening and weekend work required as needed.
