The PC Tech II role is to ensure proper computer operation so that end users can accomplish business tasks.               

    

 

BASIC FUNCTION

Under the supervision of the IT Manager, ensures the operation and availability of the company’s networked computers and all related peripheral devices. Repairs, troubleshoots, installs, and maintains company networked PCs, software and peripherals while providing superior customer service to the company departments and end-user base.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

The PC Technician II performs some or all of these duties and responsibilities on a daily basis: 

  • Troubleshoot, repair, install and maintain PC related hardware on the company's network.
  • Provides advanced technical support through escalation of issues from first level technical support positions.  Provides guidance and training when appropriate to first level technical support.
  • Monitors call tracking systems for appropriate prioritization and make changes to conform to service level agreements.
  • Organizes and prioritizes requests for service and on an as-needed basis works with vendor to resolve hardware and software problems.
  • Visits departments throughout the company to trouble-shoot, repair, and maintain data equipment problems, including workstations, portable/laptop computers, scanners, monitors, printers, telephones, and other peripherals.
  • Delivers, sets up and assists in the configuration of end-user PC desktop hardware, software and peripherals.
  • Tracks inventory by staff member and workstation and ensures this information is updated and accurate in the company’s call tracking system.
  • Assists in developing specifications and recommends computer related purchases to management.
  • Coordinates work orders for the installation of new equipment and recycles old equipment. Ensures all necessary software and data is migrated and network connectivity is established.
  • Diagnoses and resolves end-user network or local printer problems, PC hardware problems and server, email, internet, dial-in VPN, and local-area network access problems.
  • Plans, schedules and coordinates new operating systems releases, security patches, and preventative maintenance changes.
  • Ensures the accurate and complete logging of required information into the IT call tracking system.
  • Adheres to company and IT policies and procedures.
  • Provides software support on company approved applications and operating systems.
  • Assists with special projects as needed.
  • When necessary, escalates problems to management or the appropriate secondary level of support resource for resolution.
  • Participates in a rolling off-hours support schedule that requires 24/7 availability when on duty.
  • Other duties as assigned.               

 

Qualifications

 

Education:            2 year associates degree or equivalent experience

Experience:           4-5 years in a computer technical support role for a medium or large IT environment.

Certifications:      Microsoft MCSA, LPIC-1 Linux Professional Institute or other equivalent desktop operating system certification.  Advanced certifications such as MCSE: Desktop Infrastructure or LPIC-2 Linux Professional are preferred.

Possession of a valid Driver’s License.
