Assistant Track & Field Coach

Job Description

Summary: 

Queens University of Charlotte, an NCAA Division II affiliate, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Assistant Coach, Men’s & Women’s Cross Country and Track and Field with an emphasis in throwing. This is a full-time regular position reporting to the Head Coach, Cross Country and Track and Field.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Assist Head Coach in developing coaching techniques, overall team and individual player strategies
  • Assist student athletes with individual performance and provide direction for improvements
  • Coordinate activities for all matches including team travel plan, inventory of equipment, etc.
  • Assist with recruiting and scouting
  • Develop, deliver and oversee weight room training
  • Assist in the counseling of student athletes in academic and personal matters
  • Participate in fundraising and public relations activities
  • Participate in summer sport camps

Non-Essential Duties:

  • Other duties may be assigned as needed

Qualifications

Experience, Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Collegiate Cross-Country and Track & Field and/or coaching experience and ability to transfer the knowledge and skills gained to student athletes
  • Knowledge of conference and NCAA rules and regulations
  • Must have experience as a throws coach
  • Strong written and oral communication, interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Proven track record of consistently modeling positive behaviors at all times 
  • Strong follow-up and follow-through skills as well as ability to plan, organize and control projects through to completion
  • Ability to handle and maintain confidential information
  • Valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license

  • Lifting, Pulling, Pushing: Exert up to 30 pounds for force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects – 50-74% of the time.
  • Cognitive/Emotional: Ability to critically think and concentrate. Must be able to respond quickly to changes in conditions – 75-100% of the time

Work Conditions

  • Works in office environment involving contact with faculty, staff, students, parents, service providers and vendors.
  • Work has deadlines, multiple interruptions, and may be stressful at times.
  • Work may require evening and weekend hours.
  • Work may require occasional and overnight travel.
