Job Description

Coastal Urge is seeking a Rental Operations Assistant Manager for the Bald Head Island location. This is the perfect opportunity for an individual with a love of the outdoors, including paddling, kayaking, fishing, surfing, kiteboarding, and other saltwater sports. It’s a one in a million chance to live and breathe with the rhythms of a coastal barrier island for the summer.

While the individual does not have to be a podium finisher in paddle related events, they should have knowledge and enthusiasm about stand up paddling and experience teaching adults, children, and family groups how to stand up paddle and stand up paddle surf. CPR certification and first aid training are required, but can be obtained prior to accepting the position.

The Rental Operations Assistant Manager is responsible for ensuring red-carpet service for all rental customers. From delivery to lessons and tours, maintaining rental equipment and assisting with booking, the Rental Operations Assistant Manager will have a hand in all daily operations.

Coastal Urge is the premier water sports vendor on Bald Head Island, and all staff represent the company at all times when on-island.

All staff, including Rental Operations Assistant Manager and Paddleboard Specialists will pitch in and help in the retail location—on the floor and assisting with rental bookings—when not scheduled to be out on tours. Staff will also deliver and maintain equipment, including bicycles, and must be able to lift such equipment onto and off the water, as well as on and off vehicles for transport. Bald Head Island is an “all hands on deck” experience, and the shoulder seasons can be slower for rentals and tours, leading to more floor time in retail. Because they work in close quarters, the staff develops quite a camaraderie, among themselves, and among the other staff and visitors working and staying on the island.

Ability to think on your feet and problem-solve are a must. Training in conflict resolution and communication is helpful.

This position has many set responsibilities, but we are looking for self-motivated individuals who can bring new experiences to guests and residents of Bald Head Island. If you are interested in creating new programming, please note that in your application.
