Job Description

The Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority seeks its next Volunteer Programs Administrator to connect people and communities to nature through volunteerism and engagement. Our volunteer program engages 700 individuals through youth programs, corporate stewardship opportunities, environmental education docents, trail patrol, and land steward activities. We are now looking to take this program to the next level with innovation and collaboration with the Field Operations team, all staff, and Authority partners.

You are a committed and enthusiastic volunteer professional who thoroughly enjoys people and building relationships with the public to inspire their connection to nature through volunteer engagement and service.  You have the confidence to work independently and as a team player and will bring that same confidence to your work as you represent the Authority in the community at events and through volunteer recruitment efforts.

 

In addition to maximizing existing volunteer programs, you are up to the task of partnering with Authority staff in all departments to identify new and interesting ways for volunteers to contribute to the work of the Authority. As a creative problem-solver you see opportunity in challenges and take initiative to find ways to act on that opportunity to the benefit of the community, the volunteers, and the natural environment.

 

At your core, you are an inspiring program manager who possesses excellent communication and organization skills that allow you to track multiple initiatives and events to ensure that each is successful in achieving its goals. You are process oriented and look to create them where needed to ensure that the Authority’s volunteers consistently have the information they need, when they need it. You are adept at ensuring volunteer performance is in line with the needs of the Authority’s programs.  

 

This position requires a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with volunteers, members of the public, and staff from diverse backgrounds and abilities. You are excited to interact with all individuals and engage them in the mission of the Authority.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess no less than the following skills, education, and experience:

  • Strong administrative skills and technical skills in Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience building relationships with volunteers and partners to maximize their effectiveness for the agency.
  • Experience and confidence in public speaking or representing an organization at public events.
  • Minimum of three years increasingly responsible volunteer program management experience.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in recreation administration, natural science, environmental education, or a related field is preferred, a minimum of two years of college coursework is required.
  • This position is required to take and pass a pre-employment background check.

Compensation & Benefits

The salary range for this full-time, non-exempt position is $37.14 to $45.15 hourly, depending on experience and qualifications. To compliment this salary, we offer a robust benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and their dependents – we cover 100% of the cost for these premiums. We participate in CalPERS retirement programs as well as offering a separate 457 Plan for tax deferred retirement savings. A basic life insurance policy is provided to all eligible employees with the option to purchase additional personal insurance benefits.
