Job Description

What is expected from you?

When you are at the beginning of your career, as a graduate or with a few years’ experience, your focus is on learning and developing yourself into a robust researcher with a focus on the technical side of (conjoint) research. As Decision Modeling Analyst, you will join our in-house Data Science unit, which is a team of dedicated decision behavior modelers. Their main clients are leading management consulting firms like McKinsey and BCG, with whom they partner to help build advanced conjoint based forecasting models.

Your main objective is to achieve project management excellence and become an expert in conjoint methodologies that are applied among different research areas such as Pricing, Portfolio Management, Innovation and Brand Communications. In this position, you will build up your methodological knowledge and technical skills quickly due to the variety and complexity of the modeling approaches.

When you start at SKIM, you will be involved in learning all about the different steps of the projects, including:

  • Methodological consulting: Thinking along with clients on the appropriate research methodology to answer their business questions
  • Survey scripting: Programming surveys in our dedicated software (Sawtooth software) and use HTML/JavaScript/CSS/Perl to improve survey layouts for higher respondent engagement
  • Coding and programming: Creating the statistical design for the conjoint exercises using our in-house developed tools
  • Data preparation and modelling: Cleaning, recoding data, and running predictive modelling estimations
  • Dashboarding: Migrating conjoint utility outputs into market simulation tools and performing output quality checks

We do not expect you to already have all these skills. At SKIM you will get a lot of in-house training through our SKIM University program, as well as on-the-job learning. You will also get the opportunity to take part in the improvement of current and development of new methodologies, in addition to building new tools to optimize the current processes at SKIM. Last, but not least, in the Data Science team you also take up the role of an internal consultant, helping other teams within SKIM with setting up complex conjoint studies.

Qualifications

The key skills for a SKIMmer working in the Data Science team are:

  • Number-savvy: You are passionate about working with numbers and predictive models, and you are comfortable working with big datafiles (or eager to learn)
  • Critical Thinking: You look beyond the process to the objective, challenge the outcome, consider the alternatives, ask the right questions, and think rationally
  • Collaboration: this is an essential part of SKIM’s and each SKIMmer’s success, so you need to be able to work well in a team, support others, share knowledge, encourage each other’s success, and contribute to our SKIM community
  • Excellent communication skills: how else can we partner with clients and work as a team?

Other important competencies are being determined and focused, being able to quickly understand the critical success factors, having an eye for detail, being able to prioritize and working with tight deadlines. We don’t ask you to be a perfectionist as we expect you to make mistakes in order to learn and grow. However, we do ask that you have an ambition to strive towards excellence. Technical skills such as R, Python and/or Microsoft Excel are a strong pre. Besides that, we expect you to have a true interest in Modeling, Market Research, Consumer Behavior, and/or Data Analytics.

SKIMmers have a strong academic background, though they have studied a vast variety of subjects including Data Science, Econometrics, Applied Mathematics Economics & Marketing, Marketing Science, Neuroscience, Business Analytics, or other interesting studies with a research or statistical background.
