Kala Pharmaceuticals is a biopharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of therapeutics using our proprietary AMPPLIFY™ Drug Delivery Technology, with an initial focus on advancing treatments in ocular diseases.  Kala’s first approved product is INVELTYS™, the first and only corticosteroid FDA-approved for BID treatment of post-operative inflammation and pain following ocular surgery. Kala’s lead pipeline product is KPI-121 0.25%, for the temporary relief of the signs and symptoms of dry eye disease, currently in Phase 3 clinical development. Kala anticipates filing for NDA with its current data set in the second half of 2018.

Job Description

Kala is an emerging pharmaceutical company on the verge of commercialization. We are seeking an experienced Lab Manager. This is an opportunity for the right individual to come aboard and manage facility operations, equipment, and safety for our lab.  Come join an experienced and highly motivated team!

Key Responsibilities for this role will include:

  • Track and organize preventative maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of equipment
  • Serve as the primary Safety Officer for the lab:

                o   Interface with the external Safety Consultant on all matters related to laboratory safety
                o   Perform and document regular (as required by regulations) inspections of emergency and safety                        equipment (safety showers, eye wash stations, fire extinguishers)
                o   Perform and document weekly inspections of waste accumulation areas
                o   Schedule and manage laboratory waste disposal (chemical and biological); interface with related                        contract services
                o   Work with the Kala Safety Committee to ensure environmental health and safety in the workplace
                o   Enforce compliance with safety and lab procedures among all lab personnel

  • Maintain the chemical inventory
  • Prepare, ship, and receive laboratory shipments in accordance with regulations
  • Procure and re-stock laboratory supplies, consumables, and chemicals
  • Coordinate utilities maintenance (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC) with Facilities Manager

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (a science or engineering discipline preferred)
  • 2+ years of relevant experience
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills
  • Ability to perform the physical demands of the role, including lifting moderately heavy boxes, pushing gas tanks, etc.
  • High degree of self-motivation and ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Must be willing to be on call
  • Background managing hazardous shipments and waste is a plus
