We assist Owners, Developers & Design Professionals throughout the US with the most technical design and construction aspects of physical constructed building during design, construction, enclosure commissioning and post occupancy, in addition to post-occupancy forensic investigations.  DTR is focused on the good architectural/engineering decisions and true building sustainability, using “Building Science”.

Job Description

The Sacramento Area (Roseville) & S.F North Bay Offices of DTR Consulting Services, Inc. (DTR) are seeking junior to intermediate skilled writers who love learning and have good communication skills.  

This person may currently be a technical writer, typist, or an architectural staff member or support person currently working in an architectural firm assisting in the development of project specifications.  This position will include working with senior technical writers and building envelope architects to develop technical specifications, accurately prepare project manuals and work with client designers.

DTR is seeking a professional person with desire to use their writing and document production skills and experience working with our Architectural Specifiers on high profile projects around the country with top firm designers and architects on Commercial, Healthcare, Education, Hospitality, Civic, Retail, Institutional and high-end residential type projects.

Qualified candidates are considered problem solvers with the experience and ability to write and produce documents using Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat and Bluebeam, and develop practical and innovative solutions. Architectural, Engineering or Interior Design background or licensure as an Architect and/or Engineer, EIT or AIT, or pursuing related industry-recognized professional certifications is highly desirable.

This position offers significant potential for growth in the areas of technical/ professional development and will be part of an exceptional, well-regarded team working on architecture and engineering projects throughout the United States.

Qualifications

A minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience in word processing and text management in an office setting,  Architectural or Commercial Interiors experience preferred but not mandatory, plus:  

  • College degree in a related field.
  • 1-2 years of architectural/ engineering experience and/ or other industry related technical writing or specification editing and research experience, preferred.
  • Assist with document editing, use of MSWord Macros, Styles, printing, document formatting and assembling large documents and reports using Adobe Acrobat or Bluebeam
  • Willing to develop individual skills and pursue professional development opportunities to advance career.
  • Accompany Project Managers in project meetings and other coordination efforts with firm clients and building owners. Some travel outside local area as workload and projects require.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Work with integrity, trust and commitment, setting an example for others.
  • Membership in Construction Specifications Institute (CSI). CDT Certification is a plus.  CSI, AIA or LEED AP will merit additional consideration.
  • Software Proficiency
    • Strong skills in the Microsoft Office Suite, primarily Word and Excel
    • Experience with MS Outlook email and calendar
    • Bluebeam Revu & Adobe Acrobat to respond to Client reviews.
