Job Description

Job Summary

Interacts with project management and engineering groups to define, document, analyze, perform, and interpret tests for products, systems, components, and modifications to satellite communications equipment. Prepares test readiness reviews for systems and subsystems to include test objectives, test methods and procedures, scope of test, and traceability of tests to program requirements and user needs. Maintains definition of internal quality control standards and documentation related to service testing. Manages test planning, execution, and reporting, and provides regular progress reports. Assists in writing and executing test plans and procedures to government standards with government witnesses. Expected to work independently to create, maintain, and execute test procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs) with government customers and Lead Test Engineer
  • Support test activities to include antenna signal pattern measurement, FCC standard compliance, amplifier performance, antenna inflation unit checkout, software upgrade checkout, on-air antenna verification, and environmental testing per MIL-STD-810G (shock, vibration, temperature, salt, fog, rain, wind, sand)
  • Work from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts, or defined plans to perform routine and prototype testing, checkout, troubleshooting, debugging, and environmental testing
  • Track and manage engineering tests and collect data as assigned
  • Complete test reports describing results, anomalies, and compliance with requirements
  • Create, write, and edit test plans and execution procedures for requirements validation testing in coordination with customer (government) engineering groups. Coordinate with GATR engineering subject matter experts to accurately validate requirements
  • Create interconnect diagrams for test and system configurations
  • Maintain traceability matrices to map the requirements validation
  • Work with third party laboratories to achieve test program goals: request quotes, down-select lab, review lab test plans and reports, incorporate lab results into test program documentation
  • Maintain and coordinate project Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&M) for TRR, test execution, and reporting
  • Conduct meetings with internal and external groups to ensure adherence to approved test plans and procedures

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge and interest in satellite communications, radio frequencies, microwave technology, antennas, and amplifiers
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-810 environmental testing
  • Proficient with standard electronics test equipment including oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, VOM, DVM, signal generators, etc.
  • Technical writing proficiency for test plans and reports
  • Ability to host government customers during testing
  • Must be a self-starter with a strong focus on quality, details, and results
  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives without supervision
  • Must be willing to follow safety procedures and work in a safe manner
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)

Credentials and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (others considered, based on experience)
  • 6+ years of experience in testing technology products via a systems engineering approach
  • Experience working in a laboratory and/or product testing environment with lab/test/instrumentation equipment
  • Prior experience in satellite communications and testing to Military Standards preferred

Special Requirements

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and stand for extended periods of time
  • Limited travel required (less than 25%)
