Job Description

Overview of Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for directing, evaluating and growing CAF’s public-facing digital program in order to support the organization’s commerce and audience goals. Public-facing digital initiatives include, but are not limited to, public websites, exhibitions microsites, mobile apps, digital games and interactives, e-commerce platforms, digital asset management and digital content development. The position requires a strategic and analytical approach, as well as the ability to effectively manage a team of staff, volunteers, and/or vendors who will fulfill digital responsibilities.

Strategy and Planning (40%)

  • Develop and execute an e-commerce strategy to drive online revenues and audience growth
  • Develop annual measurable goals for all components of CAF’s public-facing digital program, including engagement, revenue and audience development targets
  • Collaborate with marketing team to plan and integrate all communications efforts (email, social, print, press, web) annually
  • Collaborate with staff, volunteers and leadership to keep all public-facing digital efforts audience-centric and aligned with organizational priorities
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders on program-specific digital needs and prioritize solutions
  • Evaluate relevant industry trends, innovations and new tools and translate into ongoing CAF digital planning when appropriate
  • Communicate digital program strategy and performance effectively to CAF leadership
  • Develop and manage the annual digital communications budget
  • Serve as CAF’s digital ambassador to the greater cultural institution and technology communities

Project and Team Management (60%)

  • Manage and cultivate an in-house web team of designers, developers and editors
  • Oversee the day-to-day technical maintenance and content management of CAF’s foundational websites (primarily architecture.org and openhousechicago.org)
  • Effectively manage digital vendor relationships including web hosting providers, application service providers and design/development partners
  • Lead scoping and execution of all new public-facing digital projects
  • Oversee the planning, execution, measurement and growth of CAF’s digital editorial program
  • Collaborate with tours, retail, membership, program and development teams on integration and user experience optimization of e-commerce and CRM initiatives
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and other documentation related to projects and systems

Qualifications

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelors degree in new media, technology, marketing or communications-related field
  • 5+ years working in a leadership capacity with digital systems
  • Proven analytical ability to track multiple marketing initiatives, analyze results, and adjust initiatives accordingly 
  • Proficiency with web analytics tools such as Google Analytics and experience with Google AdWords
  • Broad functional knowledge of HTML/DHTML, CSS, Javascript and PHP-based systems 
  • Experience with open source content management software 
  • Strong knowledge of and commitment to contemporary UX and responsive design best practices
  • Experience leading effective teams
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Ability to multi-task and work under deadline while maintaining a great attention to detail 
  • Ability to manage and collaborate with outside vendors and design and development partners 
  • Experience with social media platforms 
  • Demonstrated creative thinker; ability to see the “big picture”
