Job Description

Reporting to the Executive Director of Development, this position will serve as an active member of the Development team at the NCSU Libraries and work to build relationships with individuals, foundations, and corporations in order to increase private support for the mission and strategic priorities of the NCSU Libraries.

The Assistant Director is responsible for providing strategic planning and execution in the critical areas of annual giving, leadership annual giving, major gift prospect identification and cultivation, corporate sponsorship, and Friends of the Library membership.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing and implementing the Libraries’ annual giving strategy each fiscal year with specific goals and measurable outcomes
  • Driving the development, editing, social media, printing, and distribution of all solicitation materials related to annual giving for the Libraries
  • Supervising the Friends of the Library Membership program and soliciting members for additional gifts
  • Developing Friends of the Library membership acquisition and renewal processes
  • Maintaining a donor portfolio of leadership annual giving prospects to solicit gifts in the amount of $1,000 and above
  • Expanding the Libraries’ pipeline of major donors through discovery visits and in close collaboration with the Director of Development, Major Gifts
  • Soliciting corporate sponsorship for Libraries’ programs and events ranging from $1,000 up to $50,000
  • Tracking, analyzing, and reporting on progress and performance of membership and annual giving programs
  • Serving as the Libraries’ liaison to the NC State Annual Giving Office, and coordinating Libraries’ solicitation efforts with those coming from NC State University or other NC State entities
  • Serving as primary college representative for university-wide review and development of a tiered system of uniform giving levels across NC State (Director’s Circle, Chancellor’s Circle, etc.)
  • Serving as the staff lead for the Libraries’ Young Alumni Leadership Council and managing Council volunteers
  • Developing reports as needed using Advance Database reporting tools (SAS, Clipboards and Michelangelo) to identify major gift and leadership annual giving suspects 
  • Representing the Libraries at university-wide donor and alumni events
  • Working closely with the Executive Director of Development and Director of Development, Major Gifts to implement and utilize a prospect management system

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and one year of related experience.

Essential Skills, Requirements and Preferred Qualifications
Relevant professional experience in fundraising, annual giving, and/or membership management. Knowledge and understanding of the nature and purpose of public higher education. Understanding of the mission of a research university and ability to articulate the role of the academic library to an external audience. Strong interpersonal skills; ability to communicate with a wide range of people; exceptional written and oral communication skills. A valid driver license; ability to travel; ability to work evenings and weekends on occasion.

Master’s degree. Demonstrated success in development, particularly in annual giving and leadership annual giving; experience managing membership programs; experience with relevant technologies for donor and gift management. Knowledge of North Carolina and the UNC system; demonstrated understanding of the mission and role of an academic research library. Experience working in a University-wide campaign.
