AGENCY DESCRIPTION

The Office of Adult Education (OAE), within the Office of Workforce Development, has worked to equip all adults in Philadelphia with the education they need for work, family, and civic engagement since 1983. OAE was charged to work on behalf of over 80 literacy and workforce development programs to help the estimated 550,000 adults in the City who need to develop their workforce literacy skills to compete in our knowledge based economy, complete secondary education, or prepare to participate in post-secondary programs. Job Description

This position will primarily support two of OAE’s most important public-facing programs, myPLACE and KEYSPOT. More information about both initiatives can be found online.

OAE seeks a creative, hard-working individual who is passionate about Philadelphia and is interested in a unique opportunity to collaborate with government and non-profit agencies to further our city’s education and workforce agendas. This position will report to OAE’s Executive Director, with one full-time and several part-time direct reports.

  • Become a core part of OAE’s Executive Team, providing guidance for the strategic direction of the office.
  • Provide oversight and management of the myPLACEsm program, including the launch of a “myPLACEsm 2.0” program in 2019.
  • Overall management of the KEYSPOT network for OAE, leading the design of professional development and technical assistance opportunities across the network. Oversee KEYSPOT data collection, annual grant awards, and administration.
  • Lead the implementation of myPLACEsm Online courses, including strategy for the development and recruitment of learners, and the creation of new curriculum.
  • Oversight and management of several other digital initiatives, including Digital Skills, Bicycle Thrills, a new technology and adult education grant, and develop new digital literacy programming in accordance with the need.
  • Oversight of adult education services for prisons and reentry population.
  • Supervise staff that includes a full-time Program Coordinator, and part-time Course Facilitators and Consultants.
  • Represent the agency in appropriate forums.
  • Participate in and support all team and other OAE activities.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher in education or a closely related field, and/or 8-10+ years of related professional experience is preferred. Applicants with a Bachelor’s Degree and the equivalent professional experience will be considered.
Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Applicants must have experience working in non-profit organizations or government agencies focused on education and/or social services.
  • Experience managing full-time employees is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of and experience with adult education, workforce education systems, and workforce literacy are essential.
  • Experience with education technology, including online and blended classes, and technology tools that support learning. Understanding of the digital divide and digital literacy programming.
  • Outstanding public speaking/presentation skills; outstanding written skills.
  • Knowledge with developing curriculum and designing educational and training programs for adults.
  • Understanding and experience with LMS (Learner Management System) and SIS (Student Information System)
  • Experience with monitoring contracts, consultants and project management.
  • Ability to work well in diverse neighborhoods, with diverse populations, including the full spectrum of immigrant populations in Philadelphia.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel
