Founded in 1992, the College has experienced extraordinary growth in a short period of time, including securing the only named deanship at the only named college at NC State University. Job Description

This position will serve as an active team member of the development and external relations group at the Poole College of Management. The Associate Director will collaborate closely with the dean’s office, faculty, NC State advancement staff, and volunteers in developing relationships with alumni and donors to solicit and secure private philanthropic support for the college.

The Associate Director is responsible for driving the achievement of the college’s annual fundraising goals, providing strategic planning and execution in the critical areas of the annual giving, leadership annual giving, major gift prospect identification and cultivation, corporate sponsorship, student annual fund solicitation, and alumni/donor relations for the college. This role reports to the Executive Director of Development and External Relations.

Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Develop and implement Poole College annual giving strategy each fiscal year with specific goals and measurable outcomes.
  • Develop and implement targeted fundraising programs soliciting specific donor segments for specific projects or programs. Special focus on cultivating and soliciting young alumni, defined as having graduated within the past 15 years.
  • Maintain a donor portfolio of leadership annual giving prospects to solicit gifts in the amount of $1,000 and above from alumni, parents, and friends.
  • Solicit new donors for gifts to the NC State Poole College of Management.
  • Lead annual fiscal year planning process with the NC State Annual Giving Office, and college/unit annual giving officers to coordinate solicitation efforts coming from Poole College with those coming from NC State University or other NC State entities.
  • Drive the development, editing, social media, printing and distribution of all solicitation materials related to annual giving for Poole College.
  • Serve as primary college representative for university-wide review and development of a tiered system of uniform giving levels across NC State (Dean’s Circle, Chancellor’s Circle, etc.). Responsible for all college programming associated with giving levels including solicitation, cultivation and stewardship.
  • Serve as the staff lead for the Poole College Student Philanthropy Council; includes leading collaboration with campus for national student giving day.
  • Corporate Partners and Major Gift Donors (35%)
  • Personally solicit corporate donors and individual major gift donors for targeted fundraising appeals including, but not limited to, college programs, college centers and initiatives, and event sponsorships. Solicitations will range from $1,000 up to $50,000.
  • Identify, qualify and solicit potential major gift donors through annual giving, alumni relations efforts, and leadership annual giving.
  • Develop reports as needed using Advance Database reporting tools (SAS, Clipboards and Michelangelo) to identify major gift donors and leadership annual giving suspects.
  • Meet regularly with Poole College Directors of Development, department heads, center directors and program directors to coordinate department/program/center fundraising, corporate partnerships and stay apprised of college activities and accomplishments.
  • Donor and Alumni Relations (20%)
  • Be the “face of alumni relations” at the Poole College and serve as the primary initial contact for Poole College alumni.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to outside vendors for the Poole College direct mail and solicitation programs.
  • Coordinate and lead cultivation and stewardship events for the Poole College that inspire continued and increased giving from alumni and donors.
  • Represent Poole College at university-wide donor and alumni events.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a development role with a comprehensive campaign at a major university. Background in fundraising and donor relations strongly preferred. 
  • An understanding of advancement/development profession, including terms and policies.
  • An understanding of the land grant, research Tier One university environment.
  • Experience with Advance database or similar CRM software.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and ethics of fundraising.
  • Customer service focused with superior interpersonal skills: independent problem solver and project manager.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work with multiple and varied constituencies. 
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as required.

Education and Experience

A relevant post-Baccalaureate degree, from an accredited institution, with a minimum of three (3) years or greater of related professional experience. For candidates demonstrating comparable professional backgrounds, a relevant undergraduate degree and a minimum of five (5) years or greater of relevant experience may be substituted for the advanced degree.

Proven project management experience; ability to work with faculty, administrators and volunteers as part of a team in a large, complex research university.
