Job Description

Position Summary

IDEO.org is seeking a Communications Designer to join our soon-to-be-launched office in New York City. As part of a multi-disciplinary design team, you’ll be a graphic designer, systems thinker, and design researcher, all while working alongside other builders and thinkers from different backgrounds. With frequent trips that will take you to India, Africa and the Middle East, you’ll bring design excellence to support the work of organizations across the developing world as part of IDEO.org’s Amplify program.

Craft is a given. Ability to execute is a must. Passion for solving challenges facing the world’s most impoverished communities is absolutely critical.

This is you:

  • You’re a systems thinker; you love complex questions and using your visual skills to create clear and engaging storytelling.
  • You’re comfortable working with people who bring many different skills to the table, and can align your talents with theirs.
  • You’re able to provide valuable insights and points of view at the intersection of social innovation, business and graphic design.
  • You’re at home working across any format – you’re able to make a book, video, exhibition, or website depending on what feels right for the question at hand.
  • You can articulate the value of design through verbal and visual presentation.
  • You love collaborating with others, and aren’t afraid to roll-up your sleeves and do whatever it takes to get a job done
  • You have the ability to learn new tools and do self-guided work within a fast-paced environment.
  • You’re a prototyper who understands that success comes sooner with trial and error; you understand the necessity of experimenting at different levels of fidelity.
  • You’re comfortable working alongside and in front of clients across all stages of a project.
  • You’re passionate about using visual and design thinking skills to produce solutions to poverty-related challenges.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of work experience with a BA in Graphic Design, Communication Design, or equivalent.
  • Fluency in InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects (video editing skills are a major plus).
  • Bonus points for cross-cultural design experience.
