Sseko Designs is a footwear and accessories company based in Portland, Oregon.  All of our products are designed for the western market and are produced in East Africa through partnerships with local communities and businesses.  We are building a sustainable and profitable company in East Africa as a means to provide dignified, fair-wage employment, and scholarship opportunities for women in Uganda. 

We are passionate about beautiful, well-designed footwear and accessories, and we are raising awareness of the importance of educating and empowering women in developing economies.  

Do you love visual storytelling? We are looking for a Photography + Design Intern with an eye for style and a creative spirit to join the Sseko team during their summer break! If you’re looking for an opportunity to develop visual content for an established fashion brand, this is the gig for you! You will be part of a team of 1-2 other interns working with the Design & Marketing team to implement fun ideas and campaigns this summer. Past intern project have included: Birthday Campaign, Flat-lays, and Mini lifestyle shoots.

Responsibilities include:

• Assist in planning and photographing small lifestyle shoots

• Assist staff in planning and executing several small campaigns

• Working with the Style Intern for everyday content creation

• Ad-hoc office tasks (FedEx runs, etc.)

Tools & skills needed:

• Basic camera knowledge

• Photography experience (video experience a plus!)

• Basic editing knowledge

• Very minimal design knowledge (Picmonkey or Canva is fine!)

Interns are expected to work approximately 20 hours per week and attend additional events as necessary. We’re a small company and we share responsibilities, event work, and lots of various projects. Be ready to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty if needed! Internships are unpaid, but you may receive college credit if approved by your college or university. Interns are required to live within commuting distance of our office in Portland, OR. We have a small, lively office here in Portland -- and we are excited to welcome you into it!
