We are seeking a Professional Teaching Fellow or Lecturer to teach in our undergraduate initial teacher education programme. The successful candidate will also cover the duties of the Programme Leader for the campus. This requires oversight over Tai Tokerau campus operations and liaison with Auckland-based Faculty Operations teams and support services.

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

We work hard to create a friendly and supportive learning environment.  We have been providing teacher-education programmes to the Northland community for nearly 30 years and many of our graduates can be found working in Northland schools and associated education-related industries.

We provide Foundation programmes, as well as three-year Bachelor of Teaching (Primary) and Bachelor of Education Huarahi Māori programmes. From 2022, we will also be offering blended/online one-year Graduate Diploma programmes (for those who already have an undergraduate degree) in Early Childhood, Primary, and Secondary education.

As well as teaching on campus, you will be expected to supervise student teachers on practicum and provide professional guidance. If appointed as a lecturer, you may also have the opportunity to contribute to postgraduate programmes.

He kōrero mōu | About you

We genuinely believe this role is pivotal to Te Papa Ako o Tai Tokerau. You will have evidence of strong and effective engagement in teaching in New Zealand, in the primary and/or secondary school contexts. Knowledge of teaching, learning and assessment theory and practice, and experience in key New Zealand Curriculum areas, such as: Mathematics, Language and Literacies, Science, Technology, Social Studies, and/or Arts Education.

Your ability to foster your existing relationships with relevant educational institutions within our wider Tai Tokerau community is central to your success. You will be a registered teacher. If applying for the professional teaching fellow position you must have a Masters degree. If applying for the lecturer or senior lecturer position you must have a completed or near completed doctorate, a research record and a commitment to ongoing research.

In order to deliver to our tauira Maori and contribute to our Huarahi Maori programme, proficiency in Te Reo Māori will be advantageous.
