Job Description

The primary responsibilities of the Fitness & Performance Centre Manager are to oversee the operations of the Centre, the Fitness & Performance Centre Client Service team, and provide support for our team of Strength & Conditioning Coaches. All will be done with a focus on delivering an exceptional client experience for everyone who enters and/or has contact with the Fitness & Performance Centre.

The Fitness & Performance Centre is open seven days a week. As the Fitness & Performance Centre Manager you are flexible with your time and must be willing to work some evenings and weekends as the demands of the Centre and your team determine.

The Fitness & Performance Centre Manager will show Leadership in the following ways:

  • Contributing to and supporting the development, implementation and monitoring of new policies and procedures of the Centre;
  • Responsible to grow the Fitness & Performance Centre business as directed, aligned with the Fortius strategic priorities and goals, working with Client Service team and Strength & Conditioning Coaches to achieve monthly targets;
  • Managing budgets and assisting Management with collection of data and preparing reports relevant to tracking Fitness & Performance Centre business and growth;
  • Acting as the ‘voice of the client’ as you contribute to the development of Fitness & Performance Centre programming while keeping Fortius’ best interests in mind;
  • Attending and contributing to scheduled Fortius management and staff meetings, functioning as a liaison on behalf of the Fitness & Performance Centre team;
  • Maintaining the Centre’s equipment, ensuring that equipment operates safely and efficiently, scheduling inspections and liaising with suppliers as needed;
  • Recruiting, training and supervising the Client Service team;
  • Participating in the development of Fortius’ Client Services standards and being responsible for implementing and monitoring these standards as it relates to each team member’s performance. Modeling and demonstrating the importance of our Client Service standards on a daily basis;
  • Providing leadership, motivation, monthly spot checks, quarterly check-ins, training and annual performance evaluations for the Client Service team in the Fitness & Performance Centre;
  • Facilitating monthly staff meetings to share information, refine policies and address issues;
  • Investigating, providing assistance, advising and solving Client problems/complaints as required;

 

In addition, the Fitness & Performance Centre Manager will be well-trained on the client service team responsibilities and  oversee its high standard of delivery:

The Fitness & Performance Centre Manager will show Client Services Care in the following ways:

  • Greeting clients and guests in a welcoming and professional manner and maintaining strong relationships that promote trust & client satisfaction;
  • Performing on-going, shift-specific  duties (administrative and other) related to the operations of the front desk area, training floor, gymnasium and locker areas in the Fitness & Performance Centre;
  • Showing off your accuracy and attention to detail through scheduling, booking and taking payments for appointments, classes, programs and memberships;
  • Answering or making phone calls, returning emails and taking care of client or visitor requests and inquiries;
  • Ensuring that administrative support (client notifications and follow up, scheduling, etc.) for the Fitness & Performance Centre’s Strength & Conditioning Coaches is accurate, up to date, and communicated effectively to all stakeholders;
  • Developing and maintaining an exceptional working knowledge of the programs, services and training packages offered in the Fitness & Performance Centre and ensuring that this information is consistently communicated to clients, prospective clients and staff;
  • Responsible for the consistent application of existing policies and procedures including the enforcement of our established ‘rules’ and behavioural expectations of clients and members;
  • Maintaining a clean and tidy environment, including both equipment and change rooms - liaise with cleaning vendor as required;
  • Working cooperatively with Business Development, assisting in the marketing  and promotion of memberships, programs and services to help clients optimize their experience and contribute to business growth;
  • Knowledgeable about/or train on, our booking software MindBody and Clinic Master;
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum two (2) years of management experience (within a Fitness Centre preferred)
  • Minimum five (5) years of customer service or hospitality service experience
  • Conscientious and professional, with respect for detail and a desire to consistently do a great job
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Computer experience, including Microsoft office
  • Business/Marketing/Sales training preferred
  • Ability to work in a diverse, fast paced, and dynamic environment
