Sseko Designs is a footwear and accessories company based in Portland, Oregon.  All of our products are designed for the western market and are produced in East Africa through partnerships with local communities and businesses.  We are building a sustainable and profitable company in East Africa as a means to provide dignified, fair-wage employment, and scholarship opportunities for women in Uganda. 

We are passionate about beautiful, well-designed footwear and accessories, and we are raising awareness of the importance of educating and empowering women in developing economies.  

Job Description

We’re looking for a git-er-done intern to assist our team in coordinating two major Sseko events in the the Portland area during summer 2017! We are looking for an outgoing people-person who takes initiative, is detail-oriented, and brings lots of energy to a good party! Experience in planning rad events is a plus. This individual would be working alongside our Fellows Community Director and responsibilities would include:

  • Event Planning: Work with the team to budget, prep, and plan the Sseko Fellows National Conference and the Sseko Sample Sale. Combine a big picture creativity with a determination to execute on the details.

  • Event Execution: The big day! You’re working alongside our team to be all hands on deck during events, coordinating setup, execution, and cleanup. Everything from the tiny details in the gift bags, to coordinating photographers, to coordinating the mad rush for the Sample Sale!

  • Communication: Assist team in managing internal communication, coordination of volunteers, and all parties involved during both events.

Organization:

Keep all of the moving parts straight. Dot your “i’s” and cross your “t’s.” A highly organized personality is a must!

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing undergraduate degree
  • Supreme attention to detail
  • Experience managing events a major plus!

Additional Information

Interns are expected to work approximately 20 hours per week and attend additional events as necessary. We’re a small company and we share responsibilities, event work, and lots of various projects. Be ready to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty if needed! Internships are unpaid, but you may receive college credit if approved by your college or university. Interns are required to live within commuting distance of our office in Portland, OR. We have a small, lively office here in Portland -- and we are excited to welcome you into it!
