Job Description

Support day-to-day purchasing activities, acquiring goods and services through a standardized procedure. Purchasing Agent will source suppliers, verify prices, evaluate quality, assist in managing inventory, and expedite and follow up on orders.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Utilize MRP system to input purchase orders with current pricing.
  • Order required materials to provide proper material flow at best economic cost. Release orders with suppliers via phone, fax, email, or website, ensuring timely delivery to meet MRP schedule and production.
  • Communicate with suppliers regarding purchasing requirements, production changes, and delivery shortages.
  • Support weekly forecast and MRP meetings, providing information on material availability for scheduling and production purposes.
  • Coordinate with Sales, Production, and Inventory personnel to ensure that appropriate levels of materials are available.
  • Assemble supplier scorecard on quarterly basis providing critical measurements in the areas of quality, service, cost, and delivery. Perform measurements for supplier certification program such as number of rejects, over- and under-shipments, on-time shipments, missing or incorrect paperwork, etc. Review and analyze variances or trends and make recommendations to senior management as needed.
  • Document and communicate all raw material non-conformances to suppliers.
  • Maintain adequate documentation on suppliers and materials specifications.
  • Maintain all supplier pricing, item cross reference, and supplier cross reference information in MRP system.
  • Work as part of Operations team to further company goals concerning productivity, safety, and quality.
  • Assist in inventory counts quarterly, or as required by senior management.
  • Work with Receiving to resolve BOM issues.
  • Work with Accounting to resolve invoice discrepancies.
  • Create, update, or maintain standard operating procedures for the position, as needed.
  • Perform other work related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team atmosphere with all levels of personnel
  • Ability to work with automated purchase orders, supplier managed inventories, and measurements
  • Ability to use advanced arithmetic including understanding and applying conversion factors, ratios, percentages, and algebraic reasoning
  • Ability to work proactively to organize processes, with strong ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Strong computer skills (type at least 40 wpm) and proficiency with Microsoft Office tools
  • Experience with MRP software packages a plus.

Credentials and Experience

  • Associates degree in Business or other related field
  • One year Purchasing or other relevant experience
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements:

  • Available to work Mon-Fri, approximately 40 hours per week
