Job Description

This position can be based in our Boston office or remotely from NYC.

Her Campus Media (HerCampus.com), the #1 new media brand for the empowered college woman & leading college marketing firm, is seeking a social media-fluent, pop culture-obsessed Associate Editor to oversee and grow the entertainment vertical, manage special editorial features and projects, collaborate with the social media team, and secure and conduct exclusive interviews, among other responsibilities. A creative and nimble start-up culture, an ambitious team of writers to manage, and sky's-the-limit opportunities for growth make this role an ideal opportunity for a capable self-starter who is passionate about editing, mentoring college writers, building relationships, working in tandem with social media, and staying on the pulse of all things pop culture. Most importantly, candidates must be driven by Her Campus's mission of serving college women and serving as a career launching pad for the nation's top student journalists.

Responsibilities are as follows:

  • Manage and oversee team of remote writers (college student contributors)

  • Assign and edit daily entertainment stories

  • Conceptualize and execute special, timely editorial projects and features from beginning to end, such as Bachelor/Bachelorette content hubs and special features, securing and conducting exclusive interviews and more

  • Serve as editorial lead on entertainment- and celebrity-related programs and partnerships such as Her Conference, attending and covering major events, conducting celebrity interviews, and more

  • Assist in creating entertainment-related content across social platforms (Instagram Stories, Snapchat, and more)

  • Assist with content selection and voice for daily email newsletter

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 1-3 years of full-time editorial experience

  • Involvement in Her Campus during college preferred

  • An obsession with pop culture

  • Superb writing and editing skills

  • Rigorous attention to detail

  • Ability to confidently attend and cover major events and secure and conduct high-profile interviews

  • Strong command of major social media platforms

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills

  • Quick and efficient worker with ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects at once

  • Excellent phone, in-person, and email communication skills

  • Ability to function autonomously and complete projects and tasks without close management and supervision

  • Fluency with typical office technology and software; knowledge of AP Style; knowledge of Google Analytics, Wufoo, and Mailchimp a plus

  • Self-starter with go-getter attitude, positive and upbeat nature, and excellent work ethic who doesn’t mind getting his/her hands dirty and is excited about working in a start-up environment
